Missy Pyne

Missy was born in the middle of a tornado warning in West Texas and she’s been kickin’ up dust ever since. Missy grew up in a house full of music. Her mother sings and plays the piano and her brothers play the guitar. She recalls her favorite thing to do as a child was spending evenings with her family and singing together.

Missy got her first taste of performing in “The Good Ship Lollipop” and “H.M.S. Pinafore”. She has sung in numerous choral groups, including high school, college, state and regional choirs. Missy has played the piano her whole life and has added mandolin, guitar, bass and song writing to her repertoire since joining the Pie.

Missy grew up listening to country music and loves the great musicians that genre has produced. She enjoys listening to nearly every style of music, but never knew how much she enjoyed bluegrass until she stumbled across Sweet Potato Pie in 2002. It took only two minutes of enjoying a piece of the Pie before she realized that she wanted to be a piece of it too! To make a long story short, the stars lined up for Missy and she’s been pickin' and grinin' with Sweet Potato Pie ever since.

Missy has a smooth and rich voice, which has been described as the “sound of candy.” She’s a natural performer and loves to connect with the audience. When
not performing with Sweet Potato Pie, Missy can be found working in the studio
as a vocalist and vocal coach. She recently completed two projects for CMH
Records: “Tell Me 'Bout It ” (Pickin' on Joss Stone) and “Let The White Dove Sing”
(A Bluegrass Gospel Tribute to Martina McBride), both of which were
produced by Steve Dilling. These projects are available on Itunes.

Missy is grateful to her husband and parents for their enthusiasm and support. Without them, none of what she accomplishes would be possible. She’s the mom of three busy little “Sweet Potatoes”, loves to go to the beach and be outdoors.
