EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: Details Based on Appropriate Grade Levels continued

6TH-8TH GRADE MIDDLE SCHOOL AGED CHILDREN:
• Detailed overview of the history of bluegrass music, including a longer PowerPoint presentation with photos and audio of the bluegrass music greats of the 1940’s-1950’s as well as today’s top influencers of the genre
• Instrument demonstrations with some explanation regarding the science behind each instrument’s sound as well as the specific playing techniques used to create particular bluegrass sounds
• Interactive performances of moderately-involved bluegrass music
• Supplementation with grade-appropriate crossword puzzles and/or word searches utilizing vocabulary from the presentation
• Supplementation via six lesson plans created by Tom Kopp, PhD, and offered to teachers
by the International Bluegrass Music Association on its educational DVD Discover Bluegrass: Exploring American Roots Music
